-OFF ON THE WRONG FOOT- *In a new study, researchers had teenage athletes run on a treadmill in either typical “joggers’ with cushioned heels, in track shoes or barefoot. As they did this, they measured the bio-mechanics of the participants. The researchers chose adolescents because at that stage of life you have not yet permanently established your gait. The bio-mechanical analysis showed that wearing joggers results in the subjects landing on their heel 69.8 per cent of the time. In the track shoes, the heel was the first point of contact with the ground less than 35 per cent of the time. So, cushioned joggers caused a heel-strike running pattern. This matters because it distributes more energy to the hips and knees, possible leading to wear and tear problems in those areas later in life.* Thank you Wellbeing Mag for sharing!
