-Thailand- Thailand’s name in the Thai language is Prathet Thai, which means “Land of the Free.” It is the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by a European nation. In 1954 Mr. Pisit and Mrs. Nongnooch Tansacha bought 1500 rais (approximately 600 acres) on Sukhumvit road in Chonburi province. The newly purchased land was anticipated to become a fruit plantation. But as fate may have it, Mrs. Nongnooch during a trip abroad, was inspired by the beauties of many world-renowned gardens and decided to turn it into a tropical garden of ornamental flowers and plants. There are many gardens inside of Noon Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden such as: French Garden, European Garden, Stonehenge Garden, Cactus & Succulent Garden, Variegated Plants, Ant Tower, Butterfly Hill, Orchid & Bromeliad Display Garden and Flower valley. Noon Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden opened to the public in 1980 , the garden was named “ Suan Nong Nooch ” in honor of Mrs. Nongnooch, as the word “Suan” means garden. In order to maintain the gardens, management was than handed over to her son, Mr. Kampon Tansacha. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden Pattaya won award of excellence in the category Tourist Attractions and Recreational attractions of the Eastern Region. The garden has previously been given Award of Excellence three times. The garden was given the award with following comments; The garden has a well-arranged perspectives and shady atmosphere suitable for relaxation. It has applied a management system in the form of a complete and advanced business, it is a learning centre of botanical sciences for both youth and other interested persons. The Thai cultural performances and numerous many interesting activities; such as: elephant shows, elephant-riding, as well as discovering the flower garden, Floating Garden with special techniques of decorations, the Ant Tower for young travelers. The fully equipped facilities provides enjoyment and easy access to both young and elderly people. In addition there are also religious ceremonies, martial arts demonstrations, massages. There are also two restaurants, a small zoo and a hotel with a swimming pool and Thai style rental houses on the grounds.
