01/06/2011 Four Eyes Meeting Brunei Darussalam 01 June 2011 In a meeting by the two leaders, President Benigno S. Aquino III and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah talked about cooperation on agriculture and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects of the Philippines and Brunei. President Aquino conveyed the Philippines appreciation for Bruneis continued participation in the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao since October 2004, where a 15-man Brunei contingent was stationed in Mindanao to see to it that all the ceasefire agreements are being implemented. The construction of the Grand Mosque in a seaside village in Cotabato City, which was funded and will be named after the Sultan, was also discussed. As its contribution on the peace and development of Mindanao, Brunei is helping to build the white, 15-storey mosque, with crescent moons on gold-painted domes with four-meter minarets topped with pilot lights. The Sultanate has contributed US$3 million for the construction of the mosque, which was designed by the Palafox and Associates in Manila. The construction started two years ago and once finished, the Sultan will be the guest of honor for its inaugural ceremony. President Aquino also thanked Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah for hosting more than 18,000 Filipinos residing and working in Brunei, and for recognizing their contributions to Bruneis national development.
