01/10/2014 Today’s Meditation: Job 3:1-6 Victory Over Challenges of Life 6 Choose What To Hear Carefully 2 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said: If one attempts a word with you, will you become weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking? Job 3:1-2. I was not a good footballer at all in my school days. I hardly volunteer to play among my mates because I was sure they would laugh at me. On few occasions that I stood to represent my class, I always wonder why the football would never go the direction I intended it to go. I am not also a passionate follower of any football team. I watch football when Nigeria is playing and I have the time. Do not ask me the name of my European team; I have none. Sometimes I think that if people are as passionate as following God the way they follow their football clubs, the world will be a better place. Most people who cannot quote correctly two verses of the Bible will tell you the names of all the players in Europe, the positions they play and their transfer fees. In a football match there are usually many people in the stadium; sometimes as large as seventy thousands. But out of all these lot, the players are only twenty-two; eleven from both sides. The bulk is called spectators. A good player will never listen to spectators. Spectators will yell, sneer, boo, sing; spectators can do just anything. In some instances, spectators will even throw stones or other objects at the players. The players must be focused and committed to playing their games. When the goal is scored, the spectators will change their minds. The reason why many children of God will never score any goal in the field of life is because they give undue attention to spectators. In the story of Job, from the fourth to the thirty-seventh chapter, Job was busy conversing with spectators. The time and energy Job engaged in these discuss were wasted. Yesterday, I started looking at the reactions of people, mostly opportunists, who stand to speak when the storm of life blows very hard. When the battles of life become fierce, different people will face you to make the matter worse. Some of these people include: The accusers: these are people who see your predicament as an opportunity to condemn you of sins. The friends of Job were in this class. They kept saying that Job was a sinner and that was why he faced what he faced. Those who accused Job of sins were assuming to be more righteous than him. If you are in serious challenges, men will rise up to accuse you of secret evil; they will tell untrue stories about your life. Listening to them will do you no good; it will only sink you into the abyss of destruction. The tale bearers: these are people who spread the news of your trouble. Unfortunately many children of God are more aggressive in tale bearing than they are in evangelism. They know how to spread stories of the troubles in other people’s lives. Do not be surprised if the closest people to you are the ones telling the tales of your predicament. If you give these people attention, you will never move forward. The solution providers: these are men who will bombard you with suggestions of what to do and will insist that you must follow their suggestions. No man has the right to impose anything on you no matter who he is. If you give attention to this class of people, you will dance for a long time in confusion. The critics: these are people who evaluate and find faults in all you do and all you stand for. They are quick to tell people that your plight is your fault. Listening to these people may drive one crazy. Many others: men will always be men. They can present in many shades and colours. Whatever they present, do yourself a favour, pick what is relevant to your life and ignore the rest. I must not fail to tell you that there are true and good friends; friends who will identify with you in your difficult times. In my worst moment, God raised a friend for me. I am grateful to God for the couple they are friends indeed. My experience with these brethren convinced me that God can raise men to assist you in your times of troubles. But such men are heaven sent; they are men specially prepared by and sent from God. That is why your attention must be fixed on God. David said “I will lift up my eyes to the hills-From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth” Psa 121:1-2. Beloved, the help you need in your time of trouble is not in a man. Remove your attention from man and fix your eyes on God. Running after man in difficult times will only leave you dejected and frustrated; your help is in God. I command that all yokes of frustrations be broken in your life today in Jesus name. The Sun of righteousness will rise over you and your situation will change for the best in Jesus name. I wish all Nigerian people a happy independent day. May God give us true freedom in Jesus name. Enjoy your independent holiday; God bless you and happy new month.
