(01/22/2015) Thursday NEW: A Harmony of the Gospels NEW From the MacArthur Study Bible, NKJV & Matthew Henry Commentaries, KJV TRUTHS ABOUT JOHN THE BAPTIST. Today is “Johns Ministry Begins.” (1 of 3) READ the BIBLE in one year chronologically. TODAY: Gen. 30—31 Or TODAY: Morning NT- Matt. 14:22-36; Evening OT- EX. 4, 5, 6 NKJV (Johns Ministry Begins) Matt. 3:1, Mark 1:1—4, Luke 3:1, 2 Matt. 3:1 (Matt 3:1) In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, (The MacArthur Bible Commentary © 2005 by John MacArthur, pg. 1630, 1631) NKJV MATTHEW: “3:1 John the Baptist. Cf. Mark 1:2–14; Luke 1:5–25, 57–80; 3:3–20; John 1:6–8, 19–39. the wilderness of Judea. The region to the immediate west of the Dead Sea—an utterly barren desert. The Jewish sect of the Essenes had significant communities in this region. But there is no biblical evidence to suggest that John was in any way connected with that sect. John seems to have preached near the northern end of this region, close by where the Jordan River flows into the Dead Sea (v. 6). This was a full day’s journey from Jerusalem and seems an odd location to announce the arrival of a king. But it is perfectly in keeping with God’s ways (1 Cor. 1:26–29).” (Matthew Henrys Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible 1710) KJV (The New Matthew Henry Commentary) Chapter 3 “The Gospel begins with this chapter about the baptism of John. What went before is only an introduction; this is the beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Mk 1:1). Here is:1. The glorious rising of the morning star (Rev 22:16), in the appearance of John the Baptist (v. 1). 2. The more glorious shining of the Sun of righteousness (Mal 4:2) immediately afterward.” “We have here an account of the preaching and baptism of John: 1. The time when he appeared: In those days (v. 1), or, after those days, long after what was recorded in the previous chapter, which left the child Jesus in his infancy; in those days, in the time appointed by the Father for the beginning of the Gospel, when the fulness of time (Gal 4:4) had come. Glorious things were spoken (Ps 87:3) about both John and Jesus at and before their births, which would have given cause to expect some extraordinary appearances of Gods presence and power with them when they were very young, but things turned out quiet differently. Apart from Christs conversing with the teachers at twelve years old, nothing remarkable appeared about either of them until they were about thirty years old.” If you would like to start developing a relationship with Jesus Christ click the Manzanita Baptist Church’s Web Page link bellow. manzanitabaptist.org/ John 3:16 Num. 6:24-26
