04-01-2008 I didn’t have a clue who to call or ask to help be a pallbearer. I turned to My Father for some help. My dear Father, I come to you on Ronnie behalf. He needs your help in burying his remains, and I don’t know who to ask. Father, I know he is with You now, only You have the powers to send someone to help. praise You Father for all You have done. In Your name, I pray. Shortly after talking to our Pastor, The phone rang. When I answered; “Hello” “Barbara, this is De’vonne Dillard. How are you holding up since you found out about Ronnie?” “I’m doing better now. It has been a hectic week and some of it still overflows from one day to the next.” She probably didn’t know about all the coverage that Ronnie’s and Jon Cote’ created. “Barbara, I want you to come down and pick out two outfits for the funeral. I have a few that might fit you. It is my way of helping out. Will you come down and try them on, so I can alter them before the Funeral.” I was at loss for words. I haven’t had someone to do this for me before. “De’vonne, that is so sweet of you to do that. I feel blessed to have someone like you; to do this for me. I can make it later this afternoon. Will that be all right?” “Sure will, it shouldn’t take long to try them on and for me to pin it. Will that be ok?” “Ok, it will be around two or so, before I get there.” “Barbara, I’ll see you around two or a little later on. I’ll talk to you then.” “De’vonne, I do appreciate all you are doing for me. Thanks so much, bye.” After talking with her I still had to do some things around the house, then fix lunch, and then I hope to go try on those clothes. I got through lunch just fine, without the phone ringing. I felt, as if it might be nice to show up a little sooner than 2:00pm. Boy did I fool myself. I got a call from the FBI and the Funeral Home. FBI just wanted some paperwork filled out. Then when I talked to the Funeral Home, they were going to Dallas for Ronnie tomorrow. I finally made it to the dress shop a little after 2:30. I hope De’vonne didn’t take it as non-appreciative of her kindness. When I went in, I started apologizing; “De’vonne, I’m so sorry for being late.” She came from the back of the store, answering me. “Barbara, don’t worry about it. I was busy in the back anyway.” She paused, and then continued. “Why don’t you follow me to the back of the store? I laid out some that has just come in.” I started following her, and then there was clothing packed on this one rack. I never had the pleasure of seeing her shop. The clothing was some of the upper end styles like in Bealls and J.C.Penney’s, and she is letting me have an outfit. Her giving nature astounded me. Then I wanted to tell her about the calls. “De’vonne, I’m thankful for all you are doing for me. I just can’t express how it makes me feel.” The tears started again when I started telling her, “I had two calls while I was getting ready to come here early. One was the FBI needing some paperwork sent to them after Ronnie’s Funeral. Then as I was walking out the door, it rang again. The Funeral Home called, telling they were going after Ronnie in Dallas tomorrow, and Ronnie was finally coming home now.” She understood, very well. Then we got on with business at hand. I saw two outfits I really did like. There wouldn’t be much in altering done on them, so she decided to let one of them go with my navy blue suit she gave me. The final decisions made and after all, she would have just one to alter and she wanted to press the other. They would be ready Friday afternoon. It has been a long day, now to go home and relax before supper. Father, show me the path to victory everyday, because I find it is hard to follow. You know every turn in the road and I will follow You in security all the days of my life. Amen, Barb
