04/10/2014 - Blue Watch - Immediate Launch of Atlantic 85 Page from Coastguard in response to Mayday received from the crew of a capsized dinghy at Chichester Harbour Bar. Crew assembled and boat launched within 7 minutes. Lifeboat proceeded to the scene where it came across a Wooden GP14 dinghy on its side being knocked about by the effects of wind and a fast ebbing tide. The casualties adviced they had been in the water for approximately 30 minutes. One casualty was feeling unwell having swallowed sea water was taken aboard the Atlantic and recovered to the lifeboat station for first aid. A lifeboat crewman was left on scene aboard a safety Rib from Hayling Island Sailing Club(HISC) which was out in the bay with a Laser event. The lifeboat crewman then was able to right the dinghy get aboard and await the return of the Atlantic 85 - The second casualty by now reporting being very cold was brought back to the Lifeboat Station by the HISC Rib and treated for Hypothermia by the station paramedic and a paramedic and Ambulance personnel from the Ambulance service who had arrived on scene having been dispatched by the Coastguard. The Atlantic returned to scene to take the dinghy in tow. All returned to station where the Dinghy was carried ashore and put in the Lifeboat station. Both casualties were declared ‘fit and well’ by the ambulance personnel - the Atlantic 85 was recovered and made ready for service. Launch 11:00 RTS 11:57 Wind F4/5 NW
