06082014, On my way back home after the visit of Kisumu Museum, Dickson asked, Nuur, can I ask for your help on something? InsyaAllah, if possible I would help Okay, I tell you the details after were back home I nod and smile, but inside I was like, Whoa, this is suspense! As soon as we arrived at the front gate, I would like to ask your aid on something, but Im a bit shy, Dickson said. Just say it, there no need to feel embarrassed. InsyaAllah I would help to the best of my ability, I encourage, smiling. Hmm, could you teach me how to perform Solat? he said, his eyes look straight into mine. He was serious. I muted. All a while I knew he was a Mualaf and the first clue that he was a Muslim was when I saw him always reciting something under his breath whenever I saw him around, while sending me to the hospital or on the return trip back home. At first I didnt know the content of the recitation and was curious. Then at one time, I stole a look from the side mirror to see what he was reciting while we were on a trip and I heard, faintly, the words that were coming out from his mouth. Alhamdulillah, Subhanallah, Allahuakbar! Ya Allah, he was reciting Zikr! My trip to the past was cut short just as Dickson repeated his request. Oh! InsyaAllah, I would help you! When would you like to learn?, I asked Can you teach me, now?, he replied with eagerness, with all smiles on his face. Smiling back, I said, Jom! With the help of Hedaya, we taught Dickson the principles in Solat. By then he had already memorized Al-Fatihah. All thats left was a bit of homework for him to practice on the verse during Sujud and Rukuk. I cant wait to Solat! I yearned to learn, but before I move to Kisumu in Nairobi, I could only learn for a short while. After moving here, I just dont know where to look (to learn about Islam), Dickson explained. I was touched by his explanation. I felt terribly sorry for him. He was really eager on learning Islam, but just couldnt find the source to do so. Holding back tears, I said, InsyaAllah, Ill try my best to help and teach you I hoped tomorrow I would have another half day break. I would like to find a Local Muslim Association, or anything else to help Dickson embrace further in Islam. Im optimist there is one around Kisumu. Ya Allah, I pray to You to ease Your servant in her daily deeds. Ameen. From Kenya with ❤️, A
