07/01/14, Evening Flood Update - The current river stage is 18.73 ft and revised predictions are for a crest of 20.8 ft by Friday, July 4th. Crews are currently engaged in the following response activities: - Closing streets and placing detours as necessary to protect public health and safety. - Completing installation of the walkway to Modern Woodmen Park. Note: a Parking-to-Modern Woodmen Park shuttle service may be established. - Setting pumps and closing additional gates as necessary to respond to present and predicted conditions. - Providing 24/7 maintenance operations to monitor flood protection in place until flood waters recede below 14ft. The public is advised: - Residents in areas affected by river stages of 13 ft to 22 ft may contact Public Works at 563.326.7923 to make a request for sand and sandbags. - At this time the City does not anticipate the need for volunteers to fill sandbags. Since the City has increased its use of Hesco barrier protection for most flood fighting efforts, the need for sandbags has dwindled, leaving the City more self-sufficient and requiring little, to no, volunteer effort to accomplish production of needed volumes of sandbags for floods below 22ft. - CitiBus Routes 1, 10 and 14 have been modified due to high water. These routes may experience delays due to rerouted traffic. In addition, on July 3rd and July 5th, exit and entry points to the Ground Transportation Center will vary slightly due to relocation of the Blues Fest to 2nd Street. Visit cityofdavenportiowa/citibus for details. - Modern Woodmen Park will be accessible for all scheduled games and events. - The Blues Fest is scheduled to take place on 2nd Street. View the Special Event Map at cityofdavenportiowa. - The Freight House Farmers Market may be relocated on Saturday. - All other vendors located at the Freight House complex are open for business and limited parking will be accessible from Ripley during the flood. - Nearly all downtown businesses are open and accessible. Call the business you plan to visit ahead of time to inquire about access. - IowaAmerican Water Company reports its operations are not being impacted by floodwaters. - For health and safety reasons, the public is advised not to play or wade in flood waters. The best place to view the flood is from the Skybridge. - The City would like to remind residents that going around signed detours is hazardous and the public should avoid all roads with water over them. Several cars have stalled out in high water in the past 24 hrs and the public should be reminded it takes just a few inches of water to hydroplane and just 18 of water to float a car. Programs/organizations closed due to high water: - The Compost Facility and Union Station are closed until further notice. - The Rivers Edge is closed. Parks and Recreation customer service has been moved to Vander Veer Park Conservatory. - The casino is also closed until waters recede below 17ft. - Red, White and Boom has been cancelled. Flood protection measures and affected areas are: - Flood protection has been installed at Modern Woodmen Park, LeClaire Park Band Shell, Union Station, Nahant Marsh, River Drive between Iowa and Perry, and the Compost Facility. - S Concord is closed south of River Drive to Utah. - River Drive, the riverfront bike path, Beiderbecke, LeClaire Park, Credit Island Rd and Credit Island are closed due to high water. - The boat docks at Marquette, Credit Island and S Concord have been removed.
