07.06.14 Sunrise today was at 5:57AM which means I needed to be on my bike and on the road by 6:00. I set my alarm for 5:15 to give my morning breakfast shake some time to settle before I hit the road. There were a few storm clouds in the area to the East so I had to change my route and head West My goal for the day was 30miles and try to keep around 16 or 17 mph average. I’m not quite ready for the super long rides yet, still building my base and wanting to work on speed a bit for the Kansas 5i50 Triathlon on July 20. The first half of my ride was awesome! There was nobody on the road yet that early in the morning. I hit the halfway point and my average speed was 17mph. I always reward myself with a snack when I get halfway through a workout…1/2 of a peanut butter Powerbar. (Saved the other half for when I finished). The 2nd half of my ride was not so great. The wind had picked up quite a bit and I was mostly riding into it bringing my average down to about 15mph. I also hit a spot where the pavement turned to gravel for about ¼ mile which made for a very sketchy ride on my tiny road tires. Also I got stuck at a stoplight for a few minutes since my bike wasn’t heavy enough to trigger the sensor. Check out my socks while I wait… Made it home by 7:45 and did the whole 30 miles. Megan Martini Lierz had biscuits and gravy waiting for me when I got home! #bestwifeever The Clymb Specialized Bicycles Gatorade PowerBar
