07 August 2013 Press Release Date of release: 7 August ROFC/ 288 Gooding Drive Cararra Historical Milestone hits the Coast One of Australia’s leading WWII historians is on the Gold Coast this weekend to present a historical artifact of great significance and speak about the unknown history of the famed ‘Charge of the Light Horse’. Kelvin Crombie will be speaking specifically about the Battle of Beersheba and how the actions of Allied Forces prevented the Nazis from killing the 700,000 Jewish people living in the Middle East. Gold Coasters will have to opportunity to hear Mr Crombie speak and to view the famour Montgomery Bible at the event, on Sunday 11th August at either 9:30am and 6:30pm at Reach Out for Christ Church. Mr Crombie says the Montgomery Bible was presented to the commander of the Allied forces who fought at the Battle of Beersheba and was intended as a thank you for saving their lives. “It is fair to assume from the events that occurred in Europe during World War II that if the Nazis had have reached the Middle East the entire Jewish population would have perished.” Mr Crombie said. “During World War II the Australian 6th brigade held an area of Greece called Thessalonica. There were fifty-six thousand Jewish people living in that area. When The Germans took Thessalonica the entire Jewish population was transported to Auschwitz to be executed, only four percent of them survived.” Mr Crombie said the lives saved by the actions of the Allied forces at Beersheba and El Alamein are just as historically significant as the bravery displayed during the battles and invited anyone interested in Australian history to come and hear him speak. “Many Australians are aware of the military significance of these battles but few know just how many Jewish Lives were saved by the actions of the Allied forces.” “I think all Australians should know the full significance of what occurred at Beersheba and El Alamein, and august 11th will be a great chance for the people of the Gold Coast to get an understanding of the history.” Mr Crombie was born and raised in Australia but moved to Israel in 1979 at the age of 21 and developed an interest in Australian involvement in the Middle East. He has since written multiple books on the subject, the most recent of which titled; ‘El-Alamein Halting a possible Holocaust in the Middle East’, was recently published and will be available at the event. Mr Crombie and Reach Out for Christ Church have extended an open invitation for the event and hope to see a great turn out on the day.
