09/20/2014 Update sweet baby James I had a nice long talk with James doctor today. I learned that what they expected to see from the brain scan given how long he was without oxygen was essentially bleeding all around the brain. He said often is the case when blood starts getting back to brain it breaks a lot of blood vessels causing severe bleeding and brain damage. He said he cant explain it but somehow James escaped that and that is why they call him their miracle baby. By all rights he shouldnt be here at all and certainly not in the condition he is in. Dr. Carlton said that he has a couple of small brain bleds and these were the abnormalities he spoke of earlier. But the good news is if these are small and they happened like his did at birth they generally have no effect. Here is the part where we have t have patience...the Dr. will not release him until he can take all his feedings by bottle. Right now he can take about 12mL before he gets tired and then his sucking coordination failing. He said it may take him time to get that down right but if he is sent home to early he could aspirate the milk into the lungs and then he would be in there a lot longer than if we were just patient. The doctor said that at this point with James constant improvements he I really feelin cautiously optimistic that James may come out of this no different than any other child....that is watch for milestones. So please keep those good thoughts and prayers coming that James continues along his present path. The Dr. said he was the Champ of the nursery......that is all your healing prayers and thoughts. I tried to get a comb over picture but. They had that darn hat on him. When they finally took it off the nurse was there.....wasnt sure she would appreciate the humor of the comb over Oh yes the Dr. also said even though James looks fine we have to remember where he was a week ago and be patient.
