1 Chronicles 29:3, Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver: Jesus said that where our heart is there our treasure will be also. The things that we make a priority in our lives will be the things we support with our resources. For king David the priority was the temple that his son Solomon would one day build. David knew of all that the temple would mean to the nation. It would be seen as a place where man would meet God, where man would worship God, where man would fellowship with each other. David knew also that all he had, had come from God in the first place. So as he gave, he was giving back to the Lord as an expression of appreciation. As we see in the Psalms that David wrote he had a close relationship with his Lord. He wanted to be a part of providing the place where others would be able to develop their relationships with God. Most importantly our giving is to be an act of worship. As I give to the work of God I am not buying anything for myself. I am honoring God who has first blessed me. The nest time you give to your church pray and consider it an act of worship and see how God will open your heart and give you an affection for His work. 2 Corinthians 9:8, And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
