1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Charity never faileth; but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. Back in these days when the dispensation of the grace of God was just beginning there was no written word. If anyone wanted to hear the word of God they had to go and listen to gifted men who spoke forth the Word of God and that is why Paul encouraged all to desire spiritual gifts, but rather that they prophesy in 1 Corinthians 14:1. In these 3 verses, Paul is prophesying that these 3 gifts of the Spirit shall cease to operate when that which is perfect is come. Keep in mind that these 3 gifts all have to do with the Word of God. In verse 8 where it says, but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, we know that it does not mean that the prophecies that were written about the future is not going to come to pass because all of prophecy that is written in the bible has and will come to pass. The word prophecy does not only mean to foretell the future. It also means inspired speaking just as the prophets and the apostles spoke when they were moved by the Holy Spirit. And we know that the apostles spoke the Word of God in other languages as it is written in Acts 2:8 and 1 Corinthians 14:21. And supernaturally acquiring knowledge of the Word of God shall vanish away. Verse 9 says for we know in part, (know a part of the Word of God), and we prophesy in part, (speak forth a part of the Word of God). Verse 10, but when that (Word of God) which is perfect (or complete) is come, then that which is done in part shall be done away. All this has been fulfilled because we all have access to the perfect and complete Word of God, the Holy Bible. And because it is complete God inspired John to write in Revelation 22:18&19 For I testify unto every man that hear the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
