1) Discuss the assumed qualities of a beat reporter? Before answering below questions it is better to define the words that are what is beat reporter and reported and specializing reporter and reporting. Beat is an area which the reporter is assigned to cover news about an issue for a media organization. Beat reporting is all about covering your field, which includes meeting people, developing professional connections with persons in your field of interest and getting recognized by the people you are covering. Beat reporters can work in online, radio, print and television, or all four. There are many qualities that a beat reporter has but it may differ from time to time and place to place. The following are my qualities that the beat reporter should have according to my opinion. Curiosity- A reporter must absolutely be a very curious person .Interested in how things work, and why people are they way they are. Communication Skills You have to be able to communicate with people, interpret what information they give you, and send it to others (audiences) with out any distortion of idea for the audiences. Ability to be neutral and unbiased Bias is not the ethics of journalism, be objective and truth teller to our viewers. Writing Skills beat reporters are not only on broadcast media but olso in print media &online media. So they should have writing skill. Persistence Craziest thing, some people you have to write about don’t like you or don’t care about you. You have to be able to call them over and over and over and follow them around like a stalker sometimes to get the information you need. Guts You need to be brave enough to write the truth, no matter what the consequences. Sometimes it’s not easy. You end up almost becoming friends with your sources over time, and then one day you may be forced to write something negative about someone who thought they were your friend. That’s just the nature of the business. Also, sometimes you have to get mean with people who try to stonewall you and hide the truth. In general Ability to see the bigger picture ,Courage to face the outcomes ,Patience ,Hard Working nature ,Good communication skills ,Ability to bring out information from others ,Should be able to take risks are the best qualities of a beat or any other journalist. 2) How will a beat reporter effectively cover his or her beat to maximum returns? Any beat reporter can effectively cover his task with out any laziness and by applying his qualities that I have mentioned the above. 3) Discuss beat reporter as specialized reporter? The relation between beat and specialized reporting is that, specialized reporting is reporting an event it may be, business, sport, poletics, wheather, or any thing that have a deepest knowledge in a specific field. There for any specialized reporter can beat reporter (who have a knowledge about a specific place with special topic coverage). 4) Does the beat reporter necessarily have to be a specialist?
