1. HOW DO WE UNDERSTAND THE SCRIPTURE THAT TALKS OF THE ONE GOD - TopicsExpress

1. HOW DO WE UNDERSTAND THE SCRIPTURE THAT TALKS OF THE ONE GOD AND NOT CONTRADICT THE PLURAITY OF GOD MENTIONED IN GENESIS 1:26 AND MATTHEW 28:19? Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear of Israel: The LORD our GOD IS ONE LORD.” With due respect to others, I must say that most professed Christians do not understand the verse above. When they read Deuteronomy 6:4 or a text in the Book of Isaiah, the first thing that comes to their mind is – there is only ONE God. They do not go to the context of the Scripture to find out what does it mean by it? … If they took the text above to mean only ONE God as it read, they had failed to acknowledge the contradiction they had created with the plurality of God mentioned in Genesis 1:26 where it says, “And God said, Let US make man in OUR image ...” They had also contradicted the plurality of God mentioned in Genesis 3:22 and 11:7. Furthermore, they had also contradicted the very exact words of Jesus in Matthew 28:19 where the believers are to be baptized in “the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Why are they ignoring the other Bible verses by their own contradiction????? 2. HOW CAN WE UNDERSTAND DEUTERONOMY 6:4 AND NOT CONTADICT THE REST OF SCRIPTURE WHICH SPEAKS OF THE PLURALITY OF GOD IN GENESIS 1:26, ETC? Please listen friends - The children of Israel only knew there is ONE LORD, ONE GOD. Who was HE? … According to the children of Israel, that ONE God was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was the God called “I AM” that spoke to Moses at the burning bush – (Exodus 3:1-14). All along, the children of Israel knew the ONE God who brought them out of Egypt is called – JEHOVAH – (Exodus 6:1-3). There is no other God. 3. WHAT DID THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT GOD WHO BROUGHT THEM OUT OF EGYPT? All throughout in the Old Testament for fifteen hundred (1500) years till the time of Jesus Christ, the children of Israel did not know that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob which spoke to Moses at the burning bush, who brought them out of slavery in Egypt was JESUS CHRIST, the second person of the Godhead. JESUS CHRIST was the GOD who told them that HE alone is the GOD that they should worship for He created them and brought them out of Egypt – (Exodus 20:1-3; John 1:1-3). They are not to worship any other gods as worshiped by the Egyptians or pagan nations surrounding them, for they are made of word and stones. JESUS was correct in telling them that HE was the ONLY GOD that brought them out of Egypt. He alone they should worship, not those man made gods. That is the context. When we understand the context that JESUS was the GOD who brought the children out of Egypt, then the text in Deuteronomy and in the book of Isaiah about HIM as the ONE God, does not contradict the plurality of God that existed in heaven as mentioned in Genesis 1:26; 3:22; 11:7; and Matthew 28:19. Had the Jews of Jesus Christs time known that Jesus was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, perhaps they would have believed Him when He said in John 8:56-58 that He was before Abraham and is called the I AM.” And they would not have called Jesus a blasphemer when He forgave the sins of the paralytic – (Mark 2:1-11). They would not have rejected Him as God, apart from the Father – (John 5:18; 10:33). They would not have killed JESUS on a Cross because He is GOD also, the second person of the Godhead. For the sake of all Adventists who professed to believe in Spirit of prophecy, I will give a quotation by Mrs. Ellen G. White to help them see the point that Jesus was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who later became flesh and dwelt amongst men. He was God on earth in the flesh while the Father was God in heaven. Mrs. White says, “It was CHRIST who from the bush on Mount Horeb spoke to Moses saying, I Am That I Am. . . . Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you. Ex. 3:14. This was the pledge of Israels deliverance. So when He came in the likeness of men, He declared Himself the I Am. The Child of Bethlehem, the meek and lowly Saviour, is God manifest in the flesh. 1 Tim. 3:16. And to us He says: I Am the Good Shepherd. I Am the living Bread. I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Desire of Ages, page 24. Suppose the JEWS had believed that the Father is God; and Jesus is God also, perhaps Jesus would have told them of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead that He would send after His ascension to heaven – (John 14:16). Instead, Jesus told just the few disciples only of the Holy Spirit to be sent from heaven. I hope this discussion would help open our minds to see “the plurality of God” in the Bible. The Father is God. Jesus is God also. And the Holy Spirit is God too. There are three separate divine beings that existed in heaven from eternity = 1 + 1 + 1 = 3; not 1.
