1 John 2:12-13 NASB I am writing to you, LITTLE CHILDREN, because your sins have been forgiven you for His names sake. I am writing to you, FATHERS, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, YOUNG MEN, because you have overcome the evil one.... John speaks of growing in focus from being a child to being a young man, to being a father or mother in faith. Praise God for all three. But there is finally a time of being settled in our FOCUS, when we are able to rest from warring ... and can rest in KNOWING Him ... who has wanted us to KNOW HIM intimately from the beginning. Parts of us were still tempted to try get our needs met - or our identity - outside of God and the war began. Part of us felt incomplete or were less than satisfied with Jesus. Part of us became dependent on another source. Then it was constant warfare to win all parts of our own heart back to Christ alone, our all in all. Fathers have chosen to FOCUS on Christ alone as their source and their only plan is to KNOW HIM. The internal war is over. Every hope ... every felt need ... every resource ... every satisfaction ... every part of their heart ... is FOCUSED on oneness with Christ. Their very identity is at rest in Him. They were warriors but learned to stand strong like Moses with hands up!
