1 Peter 4:3-6 You have had enough in the past of the evil things - TopicsExpress

1 Peter 4:3-6 You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. But remember that they will have to face God, who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead. That is why the Good News was preached to those who are now dead—so although they were destined to die like all people, they now live forever with God in the Spirit. Those who believe in Jesus are covered by His blood – delivered to a life that turns from all iniquity. We must strive to turn away from it, and remain in Christ. We struggle, and we most certainly stumble, but we continue to turn away and fight the good fight - because we are headed the direction of the will of God. We are able to stand firm because God equips us to do so – His Holy Spirit lives within us. Surrounded by His love and pursued always by His grace, we ought to be humbled and in deep gratitude for Jesus who paid the ultimate price to reconcile us to God. Do not feel shame for turning from sin. Doing what is right is rarely easy, and comes with a cost. In following Jesus we recognize the cost and have the courage to pay it; the courage to carry our cross as Jesus carried His. Put away the old self, and embrace the new.
