1 Peter 5:8—Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Know Your Enemy! Part Three Satan’s names indicating his activity: 1. The Tempter. (Matthew 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 3:5) As the “Tempter”, Satan’s objective is to lure men into sin by enticing them to evil. Satan enticed Adam and Eve to sin through offering something visually attractive. In the Garden, it was “forbidden fruit.” In America, it’s an endless array of items we see on television and billboards offering spiritual and moral destruction. 2. The Accuser. (Revelation 12:10) Satan is in heaven right now accusing you before the throne of God. He accused Job (Job 1:9-11), he accused Joshua and Israel (Zechariah 3:1-2) and all who follow Satan are in the accusation ministry. If you accuse a brother or sister in Christ, you are doing the work of the devil. 3. The Deceiver. (Revelation 12:9; 20:3) Satan’s objective is to deceive the whole world with a wide range of scheming that promotes false doctrine, false religions, false philosophies and the outright moral perversion of mankind. 4. The Spirit that works in the Sons of Disobedience. (Ephesians 2:2) The spirit that works in the “sons of disobedience” is the spirit of rebellion. Everything that God establishes functions by spiritual authority (i.e.: the home, the church and the government). Everything that Satan controls functions by a spirit of rebellion and anarchy. The spirit is found in rock music, it is the theme of most movies and novels. It is the theme of America’s youth who have taken over the streets of metro areas. As a result, overwhelmed police departments (authority), are unable to exert proper authority to keep our cities safe.
