1 Samuel 2:8; Isaiah 58:6–12 Key Verse: 1 Samuel 2:8a He raises the poor from the dust / And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes / And make them inherit the throne of glory. Even as we sit in our seat of authority with Christ in the heavenlies, we have an urgent mandate to deal with the spirit of poverty according to Isaiah’s landmark prophecy. We tend to ignore this spirit altogether, blame its victims for their own plight, or charge in headlong in our own strength and resources. All three choices are rooted in error and only make the problem worse.
