1 September 2014 Dear Supporter, RE: CPRE Cornwall – Housing in Cornwall As you may be aware CPRE Cornwall recently commissioned a report on Housing in Cornwall; the first part of this report was circulated to the media last week and I now attach a copy for you. The key points are: At current rates of growth, the built-up area of Cornwall will double within an individual’s life span. The equivalent of 4.2 Penzances, 5.1 Cambornes, 5.3 Truros or St Austells, 6.5 Saltashes or 10.7 Liskeards must be built within the next two decades to meet the demand of the current draft Local Plan. In relation to population growth, housing growth in Cornwall is faster than elsewhere in the UK. The official datasets from DCLG do not concur with those of Cornwall Council, yet these are the basis for projections of housing need. It is this last point that CPRE Cornwall consider to be the prime issue and so have written to all Cornwall Councillors urging them to act now by facilitating the commissioning of more Council research on the matter and in the light of that research confirming our findings to review the draft Local Plan Housing numbers. To aid our cause I ask you to also write to your local Councillor asking them to undertake this task; you can search for your local Councillor by entering your postcode at cornwall.gov.uk/my-area/ Yours sincerely, H.W.Tinworth Chair CPRE Cornwall Media Coverage of Housing Report bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-29005753 itv/news/westcountry/update/2014-08-27/rural-campaigners-blast-cornwall-building-schemes/ cornishman.co.uk/Homes-needed-CPRE/story-22832850-detail/story.html westernmorningnews.co.uk/plan-47-500-homes-Cornwall-countryside-invasion/story-22810766-detail/story.html
