Inside the cave Saturday - Drove south past Auckland on the M1, which actually turned into a proper motorway at one point. One point of excitement as a flashing fire engine did a U turn just missing us as we paid our toll fee, the hill side was on fire sending a fog of impenetrable smoke across the road. Got passed Auckland in a straight line this time and turned left to the west coast, Mercury bay and Whitianga (which I think starts with a v sound. Beautiful views while crossing mountains (again). Came late to a quiet campsite with a small swimming pool and good cooking area, swam, chilled out and planned tomorrow: church 9.30, chill out, 2 1/2 hr Boat trip 1.30, fish and chips for $5.50 each (
