Dutch cyclist Gerben Karsters thought it would be a bit of a laugh if he pretended to be dead after crashing on a stage of the 1977 Tour de France. As the team doctors and directors stood around his very still body, he opened his eyes, winked at them all, stood up and got back on his bike. Unsurprisingly, not many people laughed, though I have to admit that I did.
