1-on-1 with Sarah G: On Disney debut, intl awards. MANILA - Pop star Sarah Geronimo turned emotional after seeing for the first time the finished product of her first Disney project, which will finally debut this weekend. Geronimo, 26, was selected by The Walt Disney Company to record her own version of The Glow, the theme song of the highly popular Disney Princess franchise. The song was originally performed by English singer Shannon Saunders and debuted in 2011 to coincide with the induction of the character Rapunzel, from the 2010 animated film Tangled, as an official Disney Princess. The full music video of The Glow featuring Geronimos rendition will premiere at 9 a.m., December 6 on Disney Channel, according to the singer-actress. Speaking with ABS-CBN News Gretchen Fullido, Geronimo said other artists were tapped for localized versions of The Glow in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Relating the message of the song, the pop star said: Its about pursuing your dreams. You can be a princess without the gown, the castle, the Prince Charming. Nag-evolve na, nag-mature na yung Disney Princess. Hindi na siya dependent sa knight in shining armor niya. Strong-willed na siya, she has her own voice, outspoken. Still, intact pa rin yung values -- yung pagiging compassionate, yung pagiging kind-hearted ng isang princess. Asked if she sees herself with similar traits and values, Geronimo answered, I would like to believe so, na, oo, yung mga qualities na yon, I possess! Describing her Disney stint as surreal, Geronimo said she was proud of other Filipinos who have performed memorable tunes from the companys well-loved takes on fairy tales. She mentioned her fellow The Voice of the Philippines coach Lea Salonga, who is an official Disney Legend after providing the singing voices of the characters Mulan and Jasmine; and her close friend Rachelle Ann Go, who portrayed Ariel and Jane, respectively, in local stagings of The Little Mermaid in 2011 and Tarzan in 2013. After bagging this dream project and getting one international recognition after another -- she was recently named MTV Europes Best Southeast Asian Act -- Geronimo had a quick answer when asked what else she is setting her sights on as a performer. For the singing contest winner, contributing original music to the local industry remains her top priority. Geronimo said she hopes that Filipino artists will continue to make waves internationally, but specifically for their own work, as opposed to covers of already-popular tunes. The Maybe This Time star also credited her legions of fans, whom she endearingly calls Popsters, for her success in the past 10 years. Sa aking Popsters, maraming, maraming salamat, kasi sila rin naman yung rason nito, kung bakit nangyayari itong lahat, itong blessing na dumating sa akin, sa buhay ko. Binabahagi ko yan sa inyo, she said.
