10:00 AM NEWS WITH NAKABUYE SHEILAH: About 44.8 per cent of children in Karamoja sub-region live in households that have only one meal a day, a report by Catholic Commission of Justice and Peace (NCCJP), an NGO, has revealed. The report, which was carried out on a human capital predicament, was done in Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Kotido and Kaabong districts. The Speaker of Parliament has emphasized that it is a violation of human rights of girls and women to be considered an outcast and ridiculed in society because they are not circumcised. The Speaker also castigated elders who pressure men to marry only circumcised women saying this traumatises the girls and also encourage the practices further. The Busongora Kingdom subjects in Kasese District have asked government to intervene in treating their ailing king. The subjects are concerned about the health of King Ivan Rutakirwa Rwigi Bwebale IV, who has been bedridden since July with heart-related issues. The Basongora feel government has neglected their leader whose health continues to deteriorate yet they have been pleading with government to cater for his treatment in India or Nairobi in vain.
