10 JULY: STRIKE ACTION IS GO - The result of the UNISON strike - TopicsExpress

10 JULY: STRIKE ACTION IS GO - The result of the UNISON strike ballot among members covered by the National Joint Council for local government (along with craftworkers and youth & community workers) is out. By a nearly 3-to-2 margin members have said yes to a fight to put an end to the seemingly endless erosion of our real pay. Admittedly, the turnout was disappointing (doubtless better in Camden than many places), but the majority in favour was quite clear-cut and UNISONs national leadership has given the green light. The NUT is definitely out on 10 July, while we await ballot results from the GMB and Unite in local government, the PCS across much of the Civil Service and word of further action by FBU members in England and Wales in their long-running pensions dispute. So, lets get talking to waverers, start agreeing picket rotas and generally preparing to ensure that Thursday 10 July sees a vocal, visible and ultimately very effective strike. To paraphrase the late, great Poly Styrene Oh low pay, up yours!.
