11/15/14 - Weather Outlook for Southern Oregon and Northern California The frontal boundary is now just slightly to our north and will soon allow much colder air to filter in during the day today. This will result in a dramatic change in high temperatures from the low 60s we saw yesterday into the upper 40s to low 50s west of the Cascades. Shower activity will remain light for the western interior valleys but the mountains will continue to see snow accumulate especially for the west facing slopes of the Cascade mountains. Daytime highs through Sunday will remain in the upper 40s to low 50s for west side locations. Areas east of the Cascade range will struggle to reach above freezing with most areas seeing highs in the mid 30s to low 40s.The overnight low temperatures will be the most noticeable change as western interior valleys will experience upper 20s, with teens to single digits to the east. Some locations east of the Cascades may even see lows below zero by Sunday morning. A ridge of high pressure begins to build in from late Sunday into Monday with a return to dry conditions. This will allow fog and low clouds to develop in the overnight hours lasting until late morning through Tuesday. The pattern will begin to change by as early as Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The GFS model in particular is indicating that a significant system will arrive with plenty of rain, wind and mountain snow for the area. The question will be on the exact timing of this low as there is the potential it may be advanced a day or so later into the work week. This should be ironed out over the next few days. In general if you are a skier, snowboarder or winter weather enthusiast the next few weeks will bring plenty of fresh snow to the mountains. The hope is that this active pattern will continue well into the end of November and into the month of December.
