11 Saharawi political prisoners in preventive detention in local prison of Laayoune/ Western Sahara A group of 11 Saharawi political prisoners are still under custody in the local prison in Laayoune / Western Sahara, pending further investigation after being extended for two months in preventive detention by the judge of the Court of Appeals in the city mentioned. the real reasons for the arrest of this group which occurred between 9 May and 4 June, 2013 in the cities : Laayoune and Asmara / Western Sahara are related to the peaceful Saharawi movement who gathered in peaceful marches to demand the right of peoples to self-determination and independence, immediately after the Security Council resolution N° 2099 on Western Sahara, issued on May 25, 2013 without expanding the powers of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), according to the proposal of the United States of America (USA). In pending the submission of this group of Saharawi political prisoners to the criminal division of the Court of Appeal in Laayoune / Western Sahara, the investigating judge is questioning them on criminal charges but has not yet decided to pursue them with specific charges, despite the majority of these detainees are already in custody more than two months, as AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL demanded from Moroccan state an investigation into the allegations of torture in police stations judiciary for six of them including a minor age and considering that they had been arbitrarily detained from their homes in Laayoune / Western Sahara from 9 May, 2013.
