11 years ago I walked into a project hallway homeless, family not speaking to me and a death wish. That day, I put a needle in my arm and pushed poison through my body. It was the last time that has ever happened. Since then, Ive bought property, worked for a mayor, met many high profile people, ran for Boston City Council, got a degree, ran 2 marathons- finishing 1 and being stopped on the other by a terrorist act, created an an App called iRecover, traveled, read stories about myself in the paper (some good, some frustrating) took medicine to cure my hepatitis C, cried, laughed, felt joy, felt pain, felt loss, battled depression, continue to battle disappointment, buried and attended the wakes of countless good people who have died far to soon, felt alone, felt secure, felt loved, felt hatred, felt pain, felt overwhelmed, felt bored, felt excited, felt happy, felt content- But most importantly, I felt everything and have not had to drink or take a drug in 11 years. I was a stone cold, down and out addict and with a community of support made it back. You can too!
