114 years ago today, legendary railroad engineer Casey Jones of Jackson died trying to slow Engine 382 down to save his passengers before crashing into another train stalled on the tracks. Casey was the only fatality in the wreck that occurred near Vaughn, Mississippi, at 3:52 a.m. on April 30, 1900. Legend says that when his body was removed from the wreckage, his hands still clutched the whistle and the brake.
