119) Julius left his empire to his adopted son Octavian. The Roman senate had other plans so Octavian went into exile where he formed an alliance with Mark Antony, one of Caesar’s generals. They deified Julius and gave Octavian the title “son of god”. Once they re-conquered Rome, he became Augustus, meaning the illustrious one, a title placing him above a king or monarch granting him authority over all humanity, including kings and monarchs. Julius however had another son who wasn’t adopted 120) Cleopatra seduced Caesar into an alliance with her that bore him his only son. Named Caesarion, he was appointed co-ruler of Egypt at the age of 3. Cleopatra had high hopes of his one day becoming ruler of Egypt and Rome. Mark Antony later fell under her spell and turned against Augustus. With Caesarion was dressed like Horus (Son of God) and Antony and Cleopatra dressed as Osiris and Isis (God and His Wife), while sitting on golden thrones, Antony declared Caesarion “King of Kings” 121) Shortly after Antony’s betrayal, Augustus ceased Egypt and ended thousands of years pharaonic rule. His intent was to hunt down Antony and Cleopatra and killing them along with Caesarion. Antony and Cleopatra escaped execution by committing suicide. With Augustus commenting “Two Caesars is one too many”, Caesarion was strangled. Augustus ruled over a stable empire until he died of natural causes in AD 14.
