11Amir1 For Main Tribune with Pix Communal clashes in Kishtwar “Furqanabad Ghat” raises to the occasion, maintains communal harmony Amir Karim Tantray/TNS Doda, August 11: At a time when whole Jammu and Kashmir is sulking due to the communal clashes in Kishtwar on Eid-ul-Fitr, here is a village called ‘Furqanabad Ghat’ where both Muslims and Hindu population have raised to the occasion and have decided to maintain the communal harmony. Ghat is a Muslim majority village and is covered by three small hamlets of Hindu population, and has the history of maintaining the communal harmony since ages. These days when communal clashes in Kishtwar have left whole state on edge of communal tension and administration was forced to impose curfew in most of the districts of Jammu region, people of this village have rose to the occasion and decided not to let any body from outside to deteriorate the peaceful atmosphere of the area. On Sunday evening, a meeting was called by the Imam Jamia Masjid Furqanabad Ghat, Sheikh Abdul Hafiz in which people from all walks of life participated and pledged to maintain the communal harmony in the area. “We assure all non-Muslim communities in our area that we will cut those hands which will rise against our non-Muslim brethren. We have the history of maintaining communal harmony and will not let any person to break it,” said Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, while speaking on the occasion. He asked people to be vigilant of those forces from outside who are hell bent upon creating the rift between two communities. “I am confident that people within these villages are peace loving but we have to remain alert and vigilant and not let any one to come from outside and shatter the peaceful atmosphere,” Imam added. The example of communal harmony of this Ghat village could be ascertained by this fact that despite being just five kilometers from district headquarters Doda, the administration never sent a single policeman, Army personnel and paramilitary forces due to fear of communal clashes. Speaking on the occasion by quoting Holy Quran, advocate Muhammad Hanief Hashmi, said, “Islam means peace and teaches its followers to protect neighbours and people from other community at any cost. We must not fall to the victim of these communal clashes, occurred in Kishtwar.” Hashmi said that people of both communities must talk to people at Kishtwar and convey the message of peace and brotherhood. Former member of legislative Assembly (MLA) Doda Ghulam Qadir wani also spoke on the occasion and quoted the examples of 1947 and 1965 when people from both Muslim and Hindu communities maintained communal harmony. Scores of people from Hindu community from Ghat and near by hamlets, Arnora, Bhadroon and Bari participated in the peace meet. “Every religion teaches peace and one must study books of his or her religion so that he or she understands the teachings and work for peace in their region,” said Babu Ram of Bari village. Bhagat Roshan Lal of Ghat assured Muslim brethren that there will be no untoward incident from Hindu community and called for the same from Muslims as well.
