11th Annual Essay Contest The FPCBP is pleased to announce its 11th Annual Essay Contest with the theme: Para mim, ser Luso-Canadiano significa... or To me, being Portuguese-Canadian means... Prizes of $500 will be awarded to the students with the top English and Portuguese essays in the following categories: Junior (Gr. 7-8) - 150 to 200 words Intermediate (Gr. 9-10) - 200 to 300 words Senior (Gr. 11-12) - 400 to 500 words Students must include a cover page with the following information: • Name • Age • Address • Phone number • School and grade • Teacher’s name Deadline for submissions is: May 30th, 2014 at 5pm. As a condition of winning, students must obtain an RESP account. Prize money shall be deposited into the winners RESP account. This contest is open to all Ontario Students of Portuguese decent who are in grades 7-12. Entries must be based on the topic “Para mim, ser Luso-Canadiano significa…” or “To me, being Portuguese-Canadian means…” to be written in either Portuguese or English. Students should write about the advantages and/or disadvantages of being Portuguese- Canadian, the role of the family, how culture has or has not influenced them and possible trips to Portugal that have had a direct impact on their lives. Essays must be typed and double spaced. Students may submit one essay in each language but can only win one prize. Students who have won in previous years are ineligible to win this year. Please email entries to info@fpcbp or ensure they reach the FPCBP office by mail, courier or personal delivery before the deadline. Winners will be contacted by June 9th, 2014.
