12 Days of Ornament Giveaways: DAY #4 We are switching styles slightly with this banana fiber biking Santa today. Who needs a sled when you have a trusty bicycle?? Lets hope Santa is using his sled and reindeer this year. These are made in Kenya by, yes, dried fibers from a banana plant! The plant would normally be discarded, but once it is dried and a light varnish applied, they cut it into strips, and it is ready for so many uses. We also carry a whole nativity made from banana fibers, these women are very talented!! This group is lead by an independent artisan Esther Kariuki (shown below), who has organized and trained women in her village with this skill. She leads these women and ensures they are receiving work and a sustainable wage. Way to Go Esther!
