Ruth passed her first pitch and missed the next two before asking for the ball that the girl was using to be inspected. That girl was Jackie Mitchell, from Chattanooga, Tenn., who went on to strike out Lou Gehrig in that game too. Within days of that much-talked-about match, which saw a 4,000-strong turnout for a local game, MLB commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis cancelled Mitchells contract with the minor-league Chattanooga Lookouts. His reason?
