LIFE APPLICATION: All who welcome Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives are reborn spiritually, receiving new life from God. Through faith in Christ, this new birth changes us from the inside out-rearranging our attitudes, desires, and motives. Being born makes you physically alive and places you in your parents family. Being born of God makes you spiritually alive and puts you in Gods family. Have you asked Christ to make you a new person? This fresh start in life is available to all who believe in Christ. 2. ★★Devotional 2 of 12★★ Joyce Meyer: Promises for Your Everyday Life A Daily Devotional - Day 187 of 365 September 26, 2014 Growing in Discernment Text: Isaiah 11:2-3 AMP 2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him–the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord– 3 And shall make Him of quick understanding, and His delight shall be in the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord. And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, neither decide by the hearing of His ears; MESSAGE: Jesus lived His life by discernment. His discernment was not based on the superficial senses of His flesh, it was the result of His intimate communion and relationship with His Father God. This same gift of discernment is available to you and me through our relationship with God. So how does it work? Before you do anything, you must quickly check with your spirit to see if the thing you are about to do is OK. If you have peace, then proceed. But if you are uncomfortable, confused or frustrated, remain still. For instance, at times Ive been at the mall getting ready to purchase something, but before I reached the checkout counter, I sensed a frustration in my spirit, which was like a nudge from the Holy Spirit not to make the purchase. The exciting thing about moments like these is every time you and I choose to listen to and follow the Holy Spirits promptings, our spirits grow stronger in God, and more and more of Gods power is released in our lives to operate in the fruit of the Spirit. Yield to the Holy Spirit and follow His promptings, and you will grow in the same discernment that Jesus walked in. Prayer Starter: God, I dont want to make decisions based on my own fleshly desires. I want to walk in discernment. As I check with You when Im making decisions, frustrate the desires I have that are not of You, and give me peace to follow Your way. 3. ★★Devotional 3 of 12★★ KingdomNomics Life that Echoes into Eternity September 26, 2014 Living a Power-Driven Life Text: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1–3 NKJV) MESSAGE: If you are a serious practitioner of KingdomNomics, you are living a power-driven life. The person of Jesus Christ has become the power within your life to bring you into conformity with the will of God for his purpose in this world. You are also seeking the things above. Your life is also becoming increasingly hidden in Christ as you strategically invest your time, talent, and treasure into advancing the kingdom of God. What are some of the characteristics of the person whose life is hidden in Christ? “Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work’” (John 4:34, NKJV). You will be focused on doing the will of God and accomplishing the work he has for you to do. You will also be consumed in doing these tasks, “His disciples remembered that it is written: ‘Zeal for your house will consume me’” (John 2:17, NIV). Doing the will of God and being zealous for him are indications the Word of God is operating in your life. The power of the cross will crucify the passions and desires of the flesh and keep the lures of the world at bay. This transformation grows us from being “getters” to becoming “givers” who are willing to exchange the perishable things of this world for the immortal values of the real world to come. Increasingly, the fruit of the Spirit will manifest itself in our lives. Our objective will be to develop into low-profile, high-impact players on the field of life to help fulfill the Great Commission. What a privilege to think God would allow us to partner with him! Today, ask yourself: Does my life show that my heart and mind are focused on the things above? Am I tangibly involved in God’s program for this world? 4. ★★ Devotional 4 of 12★★ OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL. FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2014. THEME: CONSISTENT CHRISTIAN LIVING. MEMORISE : Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. JOHN 15 : 4. READ : JOHN 15 : 4 - 8. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR : RUTH 1 - 4 & PROVERBS 2 : 1 - 19. Today’s scripture reading reveals a great secret of not only fruitfulness but also of God being with us. Emmanuel is not real to many so-called children of God because they are on their own. This is why they are caught in many horrible acts, and terrible things attend to their daily living. This scripture reveals the part we need to play for us to experience God as the present help in times of need ( Psalm 46 : 1 ). He has promised not to leave nor forsake us. We must remember that the Almighty God is forever faithful. Though the world may deny Him, He cannot deny Himself. Though the whole world may be unfaithful, He remains faithful to His words and even to His creation! What is our part in this bargain? We must abide in Him. In other words, we must consistently live our lives as Christians. We should never take a break from living holy. In light of this revealed truth, it is pertinent for all children of God who want to enjoy the presence of Emmanuel, to abide in Him so that the ever-willing Heavenly Father may be with them. How do we abide in Him? Ecclesiastes 12 : 13 says : “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” We must fear God and keep His commandments. Today, some people overstretch the grace we enjoy in the New Testament. Mischievously, they often say that we are no longer under the dispensation of the law, hence they can now do whatever they like. They seem to be saying: “Let us commit sin the more so that we can make maximum use of the available grace!” They are ‘practical atheists’ who believe in God with their mouths but fail to acknowledge Him and His Holiness. They do not see Him as the Consuming Fire. Paul in Romans 6 : 15 asked : “What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” When we experience God as “God with us”, this attracts multiple blessings. One of these is the opportunity to pray and receive instant answers to our prayers. Jesus in John 15 : 7 said : “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” Thus, let us abide in Him because He is willing to make His abode with us and give us comfort. PRAYER POINT : Father, help me to be consistent in my Christian living in Jesus’ Name. AUTHOR : Pst E. A ADEBOYE. Never object to the intense sensitivity of the Spirit of God in you when He is instructing you down to the smallest detail. “First be reconciled to your brother . . . .” Our Lord’s directive is simple— “First be reconciled . . . .” He says, in effect, “Go back the way you came— the way indicated to you by the conviction given to you at the altar; have an attitude in your mind and soul toward the person who has something against you that makes reconciliation as natural as breathing.” Jesus does not mention the other person— He says for you to go. It is not a matter of your rights. The true mark of the saint is that he can waive his own rights and obey the Lord Jesus. “. . . and then come and offer your gift.” The process of reconciliation is clearly marked. First we have the heroic spirit of self-sacrifice, then the sudden restraint by the sensitivity of the Holy Spirit, and then we are stopped at the point of our conviction. This is followed by obedience to the Word of God, which builds an attitude or state of mind that places no blame on the one with whom you have been in the wrong. And finally there is the glad, simple, unhindered offering of your gift to God. On January 21st 2007, Dimitri from Uzbekistan was arrested and subsequently sentenced to four years in a labor camp because of his “illegal religious activities.” The labor camp in which he is being held is 850 kilometers from where his wife Marina and their three daughters live. They are allowed to visit him just a few times a year. Marina is grateful for all the prayers for them and for all the encouragement which they have received through letters and cards. “We’ve really experienced God’s faithfulness. He’s protected and blessed us, and He’s always been close when we’ve needed Him. We want to thank God, because He doesn’t leave us on our own. He helps us through tough times. “I’ve visited Dimitri a few times and also taken the children with me a few times. His health is good and he’s even trying to encourage others. They have to get up early in the morning to start work. Often he doesn’t have the strength to pray, but then he senses that others are praying for him. He finds his strength in the Lord Jesus, tries not to become oppressed by the circumstances, and he thinks a lot about us. This helps him to survive. “His Bible was confiscated by the guards and now he is writing out Bible texts from memory in a little notebook. In this way he has his own handwritten Word of God. He’d like to have his Bible back, but permission is still being refused. “We’re thankful for the many friends who are supporting us and writing to us at this difficult time. I’d also like to thank everyone for their many prayers. Now I’m coming to understand what the Bible means when it says, ‘we are one body,’ because ‘if one part suffers, every part suffers with it.’” RESPONSE: Today I will not just think about myself, but function as a vital member of the body of Jesus. PRAYER: Lord, bless prisoners like Dimitri who today may be feeling lonely. May they experience the blessing of realizing they are part of Your body. Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against You. 11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. 12 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield ▶KEY VERSE: Let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them. —Psalm 5:11 ▶MESSAGE: A news item from Australia told the story of Pascale Honore, a paraplegic woman who, after 18 years of being confined to a wheelchair, has taken up surfing. How? Ty Swan, a young surfer, straps her to his back with duct tape. After getting the balance perfect, Ty paddles out into the ocean so they can catch a wave and Pascale can experience the exhilaration of surfing. This requires a tremendous amount of trust; so many things could go wrong. Yet her confidence in Ty is enough to enable her to enjoy a dream come true, in spite of the danger. Life is like that for the follower of Christ. We live in a dangerous world, filled with unpredictable challenges and unseen perils. Yet, we have joy because we know Someone who is strong enough to carry us through the churning waves of life that threaten to overwhelm us. The psalmist wrote, “Let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You” (Ps. 5:11). In the face of life’s great dangers and challenges, we can know a joy borne out of our trust in God. His strength is more than enough! I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend; And I know that Thou art with me, Wilt be with me to the end. —Stead ▶Our faith is stretched by exchanging our weakness for God’s strength. ▶Insight In Psalm 5, David celebrates the nearness of God. Though He is Lord, God, and King, He is near to those who love and trust Him. God defends those who trust in Him (v.11), blesses the righteous, and surrounds them with a shield (v.12). (Ephesians 1:19) MESSAGE: The omnipotence of God means eternal, unshakable refuge in the everlasting glory of God no matter what happens on this earth. And that confidence is the power of radical obedience to the call of God. Is there anything more freeing, more thrilling, or more strengthening than the truth that God Almighty is your refuge — all day, every day in all the ordinary and extraordinary experiences of life? If we believed this, if we really let this truth of God’s omnipotence get hold of us, what a difference it would make in our personal lives and in our ministries! How humble and powerful we would become for the saving purposes of God! The omnipotence of God means refuge for the people of God. And when you really believe that your refuge is the omnipotence of God Almighty, there is a joy and a freedom and a power that spills over in a life of radical obedience to Jesus Christ. The omnipotence of God means reverence, recompense, and refuge for his covenant people. I invite you to accept the terms of his covenant of grace: turn from sin and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and the omnipotence of God Almighty will be the reverence of your soul, the recompense of your enemies, and the refuge of your life — forever.! Amen. KEY VERSE: “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” V.15 MESSAGE: What a transformational God we serve, He can raise a beggar to dine with princes, convert a witch to an evangelist and a fisherman to a fisher of men for His kingdom. How many have lost hope in the world before they met Christ and became instrument of greatness? The list is inexhaustible. It is impossible for any man to judge the end of another because it is possible for God to transform anyone’s life. Apostle Paul was a persecutor of the Christians that he kills and maims them, on one of his deadly missions; he met with Christ and was transformed. A person who used to be a tool for the devil became an agent to show people the light of God, how wonderful is our God. Paul appreciated the grace given to him and never failed to exclaim it. Many Christians today were converted from the world of darkness as witches, wizards, assassins, robbers and the likes to become great ministers for God. These set of people appreciate the beauty of living in the light more because of their terrible experiences in the world of darkness. Everyone who is still trapped in the world of darkness, the light of Christ shall be revealed to you today in Jesus name. Nothing can be compared to a life in Christ Jesus. Do you still have any attribute of darkness in you, expunge them today and fully embrace the light. Let your life begin to preach the gospel of Christ. Prayer Point: Lord Jesus, transform my life for greatness that I may proclaim your name to the whole world. Amen. Food for Thought! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new” 2 Corinthians 5:17 10. ★★Devotional 10 of 12★★ Bible Verse of The Day. September 25, 2014 Todays Bible Verse: 1 Samuel 2:2 There is none holy like the LORD; there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God. (ESV) ▶Todays Inspiring Thought: Sweet Desperation These words are part of Hannah s song of praise to God after dedicating Samuel, her promised child, back to God. When the Lord answers our desperate prayers in the most spectacular, miraculous, and personal way, as he had done for Hannah, we get a clear sense of his holiness, his greatness, and his sovereignty in our affairs. At the same time, we acquire a real sense of our frail humanity, our smallness, and our complete dependence on the Lord. As Hannahs life revealed, sometimes our desperation leads to the sweetest gifts from God. 11. ★★Devotional 11 of 12★★ Higher Everyday Friday, September 26, 2014 TITLE : LISTENING TO LEARN TEXT: My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. (Proverbs 4:20) MESSAGE: “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears” was the opening of Mark Anthony’s funeral oration for Julius Caesar. The expression has become a popular English phrase and is a polite way of asking for people’s full attention. There is a difference between hearing and listening. Hearing is one of our five physical senses, but listening is a skill to be developed with practice. The key to effective communication is listening. Effective listening comes by paying attention to the words of the speaker. Many youths suffer from attention deficit. They are unable to pay attention in class, in Church and at home. They receive instructions but make little use of them. Lack of attention is often caused by forgetfulness and unnecessary distractions. You will miss a lot in life when you fail to listen attentively. According to Rachel Naomi Remen, “The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention”. Take heed to God’s counsel today. ▶Challenge: : Effective listening requires concentration ▶Prayer:Lord, I will incline my ears to your words ▶Further Reading:Isaiah 50:1-5 Quotation:Just listen Source: highereveryday.dclmhq.org/ 12. ★★Devotional 12 of 12★★ DCLM Daily Manna A Daily Devotional Guide TOPIC: God’s Mercy Friday 26, September 2014 TEXT: JEREMIAH 30:15-24 15 Why do you cry about your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable. Because of the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you. 16 ‘Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured; And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; Those who plunder you shall become plunder, And all who prey upon you I will make a prey. 17 For I will restore health to you And heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.”’ 18 “Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, And have mercy on his dwelling places; The city shall be built upon its own mound, And the palace shall remain according to its own plan. 19 Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 20 Their children also shall be as before, And their congregation shall be established before Me; And I will punish all who oppress them. 21 Their nobles shall be from among them, And their governor shall come from their midst; Then I will cause him to draw near, And he shall approach Me; For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the Lord. 22 ‘You shall be My people, And I will be your God.’” 23 Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord Goes forth with fury, A continuing whirlwind; It will fall violently on the head of the wicked. 24 The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it, And until He has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you will consider it Key verse: “Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof” (Jeremiah 30:18). MESSAGE: James Smith said: “There is mercy with the Lord; this should encourage the miserable to approach Him; this informs the fearful that they need bring nothing to induce Him to bless them; this calls upon backsliders to return to Him; and this is calculated to cheer the tried Christian, under all his troubles and distresses. Remember, mercy is like God, it is infinite and eternal. Mercy is always on the throne. Mercy may be obtained by any sinner.” That was the mercy God showed upon the Israelites, who sinned much to serve more than enough punishment from God. Though they suffered justly and could not help themselves, the Lord, from this passage, decided to deliver them and punish their oppressors, who had placed them in perpetual bondage and oppression. As the afflictions and distresses of the Jewish nation were expressed by sickness, wounds, and bruises, so their prosperity, both spiritual and temporal, would be manifested through sound health. God promised them that the city and temple, which were in ruins, would be rebuilt, while their sacred feasts would be restored. He equally promised them that they would multiply and become illustrious. God also assured them that He would remember the covenant which He made to their fathers. The message is equally for us today. Christ, through His authoritative pleadings at the throne, will remember us and plead our cause. With His dominion over principalities and powers, all those who trust in Him will get their benefits. He is the very present Help at the hour of need; only He can deliver from death and the power of the grave. Like the backslidden and captive Israel in our passage, we need the Saviour today. We need someone who can be our deliverer, someone who has the power to save us from captivity to sin and Satan, and manifest the power of the Almighty in our lives and our world. Thought for the day: Our God is a God of mercy and bountifulness. Source: dailymanna.dclmhq.org/ ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ May the Lord give you clear understanding as you study at His feet.
