123rd anniv of Chin-Lushai conference at Ccpur January 24: The Zo Reunification Organisation (ZoRO) will be commemorating the 123rd Anniversary of Chin-Lushai Conference 1892 (Fort William, Calcutta) on January 29 and 30 at Kholmun play ground, Churachandpur, Manipur under the theme : “Ethnic Zo People’s Solidarity.” The two-day event will be attended by delegates from Zo indigenous people, dispersed by the British colonialists across the globe. Cultural shows, rendering of patriotic/country songs from popular Zo artistes; and political discourses on Zo integration from eminent Zo ethnic group leaders will be the cynosure of the historic event. The ZoRO GHQ Executive members, Zo leaders from different zones and divisions will also deliberate on the challenges and opportunities of the Zo people. The Chin-Lushai Conference of 1892 under the Presidentship of Sir Charles Alfred Elliot, the then Lieutenant Governor of Bengal, proved futile as it failed in its goal for the re-unification of the Zo territories under a single political administrative unit. Nonetheless today, under the rubicon of ZoRO, the Zo people; whose lands were not only divided under various political administrative units, but also given and tagged by different nomenclatures, could come together for a common purpose, with a shared vision, to leverage their political aspirations as one people, one nation, ZoRO said.
