13 year old Gorkhali girl raped in Manipur: Two Gorkhalis killed during protest.A 13-year-old Gorkhali girl was brutally raped in Manipur by a 65 year old man. The accused,identified as S. Ngaopuni, mislead the girl and raped her in a hillock. Medical examination has established rape. On hearing the cries of the girl, amotorist thrashed the accused. However the accused tried to bribe the motorist. During the melee the girl escaped and took shelter in the house of a relative there.Later in the night, angry villagers blocked the highway from Kanglatongbi to Sekami demanding the arrest of the culprit. There was a face off with the police commandos who tried to disperse the mob. In order to disperse the crowd police restored to firing into the crowd, in which Tilak Poudeyal was killed on the spot. Two others, Bir Karki and Hemant Sharma, were battling for their lives in a private hospital, as of writing this report,we are unable to confirm the name of the second person who died. Representatives of the Manipur Gorkha Students Union, the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh,the Gorkha Welfare Union said that they waited till the time set by the local MLA Erabot Yumkham for the arrest of the culprit. Failore to arrest the culprit led to the mob clashing with the police.As of reporting this, situation is highly tense and Highway 39 has remained blocked since Friday midnight and additional forces have rushed to Kanglatongbi in Senapati district to maintain law and order.Protesting against the incidence one of our readers Asis Lasang Hagemaru writes, shooting out at the Gorkha protestors demanding justice for such a shameful act ,in which two got killed in the firing and six others got injured was total disregard of the human rights to the Indian Gorkha Community; mainly to the Gorkhas in Manipur whose Gorkha forefathers laid their lives in the Anglo-Burmese War and the World War II against the Japanese invasion in India... We the whole Indian Gorkhas condemn Manipur Police brutality and demand immediate action against those police personnel as well as the officer in charge who gave firing order to them and seek Centres immediate intervention for the safety of a minority community We extend our solidarity with our Gorkhali brothers and sisters inManipur and request them to maintain peace and order in the region.
