13 years ago I had just finished high school and moved to rural Indiana from Baumholder Germany about a month prior and had just started working at a gas station working night shift. That mornting we had just lowered our gas prices on our sign, we were now the lowest priced in town. The gas station next to us were about a cent or two more. I was getting off the night shift and they needed me to stay b/c someone didnt show. Then some little old ladies came in and said a plane hit the WTC. So I got on the phone and called my uncle and told him to turn on the news. When he did he said OMG a 2nd plane hit!. I was petrified! There was then people coming in talking about calling up the national guard were going to war etc... I had just came back to the USA after about 5 years since my last visit. I was like W...T...F...?! Thats about when my uncle called me back and said they got the Pentagon and there was another plane but he didnt know what happened to that one. Then there were people freaking out about gas. Suddenly our parking lot was full up with cars. They were lined down the street!!! Then there was an old man out there threating people with a BB gun b/c he was sure they were gonna get all the gas before he could. I almost fainted I was so overwhelmed so I had my granma come pick me up and we went by Walmart on the way home and I remember all the tvs were on the news and I stared in horror at what I saw I couldnt move it was the first I saw of it. I dont think there was anyone who wasnt effected by it. We are still healing as a nation. And this day will always be a day of great sorrow. But also look at today as a day of hope. A hope that we continue to be strong American people, a hope that we come together for a common purpose, and a hope that we keep future tragedies like this from happening here again.
