13 years ago today my crew and I flew support missions from Hurlburt Field, FL to Pope AFB, NC and McGuire AFB, NJ where MH-53s were working out of for flights to ground zero in NYC. A very long day and extended day, but easy compared to the heroic efforts taking place in D.C. and NYC. What was eery was the complete silence on the air traffic control radio frequencies. After checking in with each new controller we wouldnt hear anything again until getting handed over to the next controller. Deafening silence on the radios I hope never happens again. Never Forget
