131 Commando Engineers have been training alongside the United States Marine Corps at their base in Quantico. The Squadrons Commando role allows it to support 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines, who are the UKs quick-reaction amphibious assault and mountain and cold weather warfare specialists. Because of this specialist function, recruits wishing to join the Squadron have to pass the Commando Course in order to earn the coveted Green Beret of the Commando Forces. The physical tests include a 30 foot rope climb, assault course, firemans carry, 9-mile speed march, high-wire Tarzan course and 30-mile endurance march, all against the clock and whilst carrying kit and rifle, adding up to a total of 14kg.
