135,000 feet in 15 minutes: Googles Alan Eustace breaks Felix Baumgartners record for the highest parachute jump in history Googles Alan Eustace is 57 years old and a senior vice president of Knowledge at the search engine. He now has a world record in his name. The Googler fell faster than the speed of sound and broke Felix Baumgartners world record for the highest parachute jump. Eustace wore a specially designed spacesuit and was lifted by a helium balloon filled with 35,000 cubic feet of the gas. It took him 15 minutes to descend after using explosives to separate himself from the balloon. He fell on the earth at a speed that peaked slightly more than 800 miles per hour. The Googler broke several records including the world record for free fall under a drogue chute, national record for vertical speed and national record for highest exit altitude.
