14. IBRAHIM سورة إبراهيم - سورة 14 In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, The Merciful بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم 1. Alif Laam Raa. A book which We have sent down to you so that, by the permission of their Fosterer, you may bring out mankind from the darkness (and lead them) towards the light, towards the path of the Mighty, the Praised. الَر كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ لِتُخْرِجَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَى صِرَاطِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ .1 2. Allah is He, Whose is whatsoever is in the skies and whatsoever is in the earth; and sorrowful will be the state of the infidels due to a severe punishment. اللّهِ الَّذِي لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَوَيْلٌ لِّلْكَافِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ .2 3. Those who love the life of this world more than the hereafter and turn away (people) from Allah’s way and seek crookedness in it, they are far astray. الَّذِينَ يَسْتَحِبُّونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الآخِرَةِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا أُوْلَـئِكَ فِي ضَلاَلٍ بَعِيدٍ .3 4. And We did not send any messenger (with a message) but in the language of his people that he might make (things) clear to them. Then Allah leaves in error whom He wills and guides whom He wills and He is the Mighty, the Wise. وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلاَّ بِلِسَانِ قَوْمِهِ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمْ فَيُضِلُّ اللّهُ مَن يَشَاء وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاء وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ .4 5. And We had sent Musa with Our signs (saying) that, “Bring out your people from the darkness towards the light and remind them of the days (favours) of Allah, certainly in that there are signs for every patient, grateful one.” وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَى بِآيَاتِنَا أَنْ أَخْرِجْ قَوْمَكَ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ وَذَكِّرْهُمْ بِأَيَّامِ اللّهِ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ .5 6. And when Musa said to his people, “Remember Allah’s favour on you when He delivered you from the people of Firawn who subjected you to severe punishment, when they killed your sons and let your women live, and in that there was a great trial from your Fosterer. ( R 1 ) وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَةَ اللّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ أَنجَاكُم مِّنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ وَيُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَاءكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَاءكُمْ وَفِي ذَلِكُم بَلاء مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ .6 7. And when your Fosterer announced: If you are grateful I will definitely give you more, but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is certainly severe.” وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ .7 8. And Musa said, “If you are ungrateful, you and all in the earth together, (even) then Allah is certainly Independent, Praised.” وَقَالَ مُوسَى إِن تَكْفُرُواْ أَنتُمْ وَمَن فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا فَإِنَّ اللّهَ لَغَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٌ .8 9. Has the news of those before you not come to you: people of Nuh and Aad and Samood and those after them? They do not know them but Allah (knows). Their messengers came to them with clear proofs but they thrust their hands in their mouths and said, “We certainly do not believe in that which you are sent with, and we are certainly in doubt causing restlessness, about that which you call us to.” ( P 12 ¾ ) أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَبَأُ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَالَّذِينَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُهُمْ إِلاَّ اللّهُ جَاءتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَرَدُّواْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فِي أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَقَالُواْ إِنَّا كَفَرْنَا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِ وَإِنَّا لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَنَا إِلَيْهِ مُرِيبٍ .9 10. Their messengers said, “Is there a doubt about Allah, the Initiator of the creation of the skies and the earth? He invites you to protectively forgive you your sins and to give you time till an appointed term.” They said, “You are nothing but men like us, you intend to turn us away from that which our fathers used to serve (worship), so bring to us some clear authority.” قَالَتْ رُسُلُهُمْ أَفِي اللّهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِيَغْفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُّسَـمًّى قَالُواْ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلاَّ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ آبَآؤُنَا فَأْتُونَا بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ .10 11. Their messengers said to them, “We are (of course) nothing but men like you but Allah bestows (his) favour on whom He wills of His servants, and it is not possible for us to come to you with an authority without the permission of Allah, and therefore, let the believers put their trust in Allah. قَالَتْ لَهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ إِن نَّحْنُ إِلاَّ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ وَلَـكِنَّ اللّهَ يَمُنُّ عَلَى مَن يَشَاء مِنْ عِبَادِهِ وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا أَن نَّأْتِيَكُم بِسُلْطَانٍ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِ اللّهِ وَعلَى اللّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ .11 12. And what (reason) have we that we should not put our trust in Allah when He has guided us to our ways? And we will definitely be patient on the harm which you do to us, and therefore, let those who trust, put their trust in Allah.” ( R 2 ) وَمَا لَنَا أَلاَّ نَتَوَكَّلَ عَلَى اللّهِ وَقَدْ هَدَانَا سُبُلَنَا وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ عَلَى مَا آذَيْتُمُونَا وَعَلَى اللّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ .12 13. And those who did not believe said to their messengers, “We will definitely drive you out from our land or else you should return to our religious dictates.” So their Fosterer communicated to them, “We will definitely destroy the unjust, وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِرُسُلِهِمْ لَنُخْرِجَنَّـكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِنَآ أَوْ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِي مِلَّتِنَا فَأَوْحَى إِلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ لَنُهْلِكَنَّ الظَّالِمِينَ .13 14.and We will definitely make you dwell in the land after them.” That’s for him who fears standing before Me and fears My threat. وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّـكُمُ الأَرْضَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامِي وَخَافَ وَعِيدِ .14 15. And the (messengers) sought for victory, so every compelling opponent was defeated. وَاسْتَفْتَحُواْ وَخَابَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ .15 16. Hell is before him and he will be made to drink from boiling water. مِّن وَرَآئِهِ جَهَنَّمُ وَيُسْقَى مِن مَّاء صَدِيدٍ .16 17. He will drink it little by little but he will not be able to swallow it, and death will come to him from every place yet he will not die, and before him there will be a harsh punishment. يَتَجَرَّعُهُ وَلاَ يَكَادُ يُسِيغُهُ وَيَأْتِيهِ الْمَوْتُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمَيِّتٍ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِ عَذَابٌ غَلِيظٌ .17 18. The likeness of those who do not believe in their Fosterer (is like those) whose works will be like ashes on which the wind blows hard on a stormy day. They will not have power on anything of that which they earned. That (in fact), will be going far astray (from success). مَّثَلُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِرَبِّهِمْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ كَرَمَادٍ اشْتَدَّتْ بِهِ الرِّيحُ فِي يَوْمٍ عَاصِفٍ لاَّ يَقْدِرُونَ مِمَّا كَسَبُواْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الضَّلاَلُ الْبَعِيدُ .18 19. Do you not see that Allah created the skies and the earth in reality? * If He wills He can remove you and bring in a new creation, * The universe is real, not an illusion. أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللّهَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ بِالْحقِّ إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَأْتِ بِخَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ .19 20. and that is not mighty for Allah. وَمَا ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ بِعَزِيزٍ .20 21. And they will all appear before Allah. Then the weak will say to those who were considered great, “We were your followers, so can you keep us safe from anything of Allah’s punishment?” They will say, “Had Allah guided us we would have guided you, (now) it is the same to us whether we are impatient or patient, there is no way of escape for us.” ( R 3 ) وَبَرَزُواْ لِلّهِ جَمِيعًا فَقَالَ الضُّعَفَاء لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُواْ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعًا فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّغْنُونَ عَنَّا مِنْ عَذَابِ اللّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ قَالُواْ لَوْ هَدَانَا اللّهُ لَهَدَيْنَاكُمْ سَوَاء عَلَيْنَآ أَجَزِعْنَا أَمْ صَبَرْنَا مَا لَنَا مِن مَّحِيصٍ .21 22. And the devil will say after the affair is decided, “Allah certainly promised you the promise of truth and I promised you but went against (my promise to ) you, and I had no authority over you except that I invited you and you responded to me, so do not blame me but blame yourselves. I cannot help you (on your cries for help) nor can you help me I certainly rejected that (act of yours) in which you earlier associated me as a partner (with Allah). Those who are unjust, for them there is certainly a painful punishment.” وَقَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ لَمَّا قُضِيَ الأَمْرُ إِنَّ اللّهَ وَعَدَكُمْ وَعْدَ الْحَقِّ وَوَعَدتُّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ وَمَا كَانَ لِيَ عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَانٍ إِلاَّ أَن دَعَوْتُكُمْ فَاسْتَجَبْتُمْ لِي فَلاَ تَلُومُونِي وَلُومُواْ أَنفُسَكُم مَّا أَنَاْ بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ وَمَا أَنتُمْ بِمُصْرِخِيَّ إِنِّي كَفَرْتُ بِمَآ أَشْرَكْتُمُونِ مِن قَبْلُ إِنَّ الظَّالِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ .22 23. And those who believed and did righteous works will be made to enter the gardens beneath which rivers flow. They will stay therein by the permission of their Fosterer. Their greeting therein will be ‘Peace’. وَأُدْخِلَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ تَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيهَا سَلاَمٌ .23 24. Did you not consider how Allah sets forth a similitude? A good statement is like a good tree, the root of which is firm and the branches of which are in the sky. أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ اللّهُ مَثَلاً كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً كَشَجَرةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ أَصْلُهَا ثَابِتٌ وَفَرْعُهَا فِي السَّمَاء .24 25. It gives its fruit in every season by the permission of its Fosterer, and Allah sets forth similitude’s for mankind, that they may be mindful. تُؤْتِي أُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِينٍ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهَا وَيَضْرِبُ اللّهُ الأَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ .25 26. And (another) similitude: A bad statement is like a bad tree (which can be easily) uprooted from the earth’s surface, it has no stability. وَمَثلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ اجْتُثَّتْ مِن فَوْقِ الأَرْضِ مَا لَهَا مِن قَرَارٍ .26 27. Through the confirmed statement Allah establishes those who believe, (both) in the life of this world and in the hereafter, and Allah leaves the unjust in error and Allah does what He wills. ( R 4 ) يُثَبِّتُ اللّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الآخِرَةِ وَيُضِلُّ اللّهُ الظَّالِمِينَ وَيَفْعَلُ اللّهُ مَا يَشَاء .27 28. Did you not see those who exhibit ingratitude in exchange for Allah’s favours and make their people alight into the home of loss, أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ بَدَّلُواْ نِعْمَةَ اللّهِ كُفْرًا وَأَحَلُّواْ قَوْمَهُمْ دَارَ الْبَوَارِ .28 29. hell, they will enter it and it is an evil place (and time for) staying. جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا وَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ .29 30. And they set up equals with Allah that they may mislead (people) from His way. Say, “Enjoy yourselves, but you are certainly destined for hell.” وَجَعَلُواْ لِلّهِ أَندَادًا لِّيُضِلُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ قُلْ تَمَتَّعُواْ فَإِنَّ مَصِيرَكُمْ إِلَى النَّارِ .30 31. Say to My servants who believe, that they should establish worship (salat) and spend from that which We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before the coming of a day in which there will be neither (mutual) trade nor friendship. قُل لِّعِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ يُقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَيُنفِقُواْ مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلانِيَةً مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ يَوْمٌ لاَّ بَيْعٌ فِيهِ وَلاَ خِلاَلٌ .31 32. Allah is He Who created the skies and the earth and sent down water from the sky, then through it He brought forth (many varieties) of fruits (as) provision for you. And He compelled the ships (to follow His laws) and thereby sail in the sea by His command for your (service), and He compelled the rivers (to follow His laws) for your (service). اللّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاء مَاء فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقًا لَّكُمْ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الْفُلْكَ لِتَجْرِيَ فِي الْبَحْرِ بِأَمْرِهِ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الأَنْهَارَ .32 33. And He compelled the sun and the moon (to follow His laws) constantly for your (service) and compelled the night and the day (to follow His laws) for your service { 1 }. وَسَخَّر لَكُمُ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ دَآئِبَينَ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ .33 34. And He gives you everything which you ask from Him and if you count Allah’s favours you will not be able to compute them. Man is certainly unjust, ungrateful. ( R 5 ) وَآتَاكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعْمَتَ اللّهِ لاَ تُحْصُوهَا إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لَظَلُومٌ كَفَّارٌ .34 35. And when Ibrahim said, “My Fosterer ! make this city secure and save me and my sons from worshipping idols. وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَـذَا الْبَلَدَ آمِنًا وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ الأَصْنَامَ .35 36. My Fosterer ! they have misled many of the mankind, so whoever follows me is of me and whoever disobeys me, then certainly You are Protectively Forgiving, Merciful. رَبِّ إِنَّهُنَّ أَضْلَلْنَ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ النَّاسِ فَمَن تَبِعَنِي فَإِنَّهُ مِنِّي وَمَنْ عَصَانِي فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ .36 37. Our Fosterer ! I have settled (some) of my off-spring in a valley without cultivation, near Your Sacred House, our Fosterer ! that they may establish worship (salat), so make the hearts of mankind to incline towards them, and provide them with fruits that they may be grateful. رَّبَّنَا إِنِّي أَسْكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِي بِوَادٍ غَيْرِ ذِي زَرْعٍ عِندَ بَيْتِكَ الْمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ فَاجْعَلْ أَفْئِدَةً مِّنَ النَّاسِ تَهْوِي إِلَيْهِمْ وَارْزُقْهُم مِّنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْكُرُونَ .37 38. Our Fosterer ! You certainly know that which we hide and that which we make public and nothing is hidden from Allah (whether) in the earth or in the sky. رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ مَا نُخْفِي وَمَا نُعْلِنُ وَمَا يَخْفَى عَلَى اللّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ فَي الأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاء .38 39. Praise is due only for Allah Who has granted me in old age, Ismael and Ishaq, my Fosterer is certainly the Hearer of prayer. الْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ الَّذِي وَهَبَ لِي عَلَى الْكِبَرِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَقَ إِنَّ رَبِّي لَسَمِيعُ الدُّعَاء .39 40. My Fosterer ! make me one who establishes worship (salat) and (also) from my offspring. Our Fosterer ! and accept my prayer. رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلاَةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاء .40 41. Our Fosterer ! protectively forgive me and my parents and the believers on the day the account (of deeds) will be established.” ( R 6 ) رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ .41 42. And do not think that Allah is unaware of that which the unjust do. He only gives them time till the day on which the eyes will stare (in horror), وَلاَ تَحْسَبَنَّ اللّهَ غَافِلاً عَمَّا يَعْمَلُ الظَّالِمُونَ إِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ تَشْخَصُ فِيهِ الأَبْصَارُ .42 43. (they will be) running with their heads raised without blinking their eyes and their hearts (will be) vacant. مُهْطِعِينَ مُقْنِعِي رُءُوسِهِمْ لاَ يَرْتَدُّ إِلَيْهِمْ طَرْفُهُمْ وَأَفْئِدَتُهُمْ هَوَاء .43 44. And warn mankind of the day when the punishment will come upon them, then those who were unjust would say, “Our Fosterer ! give us time till a near term, we will respond to your invitation and we will follow the messengers.” (They will be answered), “Did you not swear before, that there will be no decline for you? وَأَنذِرِ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمُ الْعَذَابُ فَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ رَبَّنَا أَخِّرْنَا إِلَى أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ نُّجِبْ دَعْوَتَكَ وَنَتَّبِعِ الرُّسُلَ أَوَلَمْ تَكُونُواْ أَقْسَمْتُم مِّن قَبْلُ مَا لَكُم مِّن زَوَالٍ .44 45. And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who were unjust to themselves and it was made clear to you how We dealt with them and We had set forth similitude’s for you.” وَسَكَنتُمْ فِي مَسَـاكِنِ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمْ كَيْفَ فَعَلْنَا بِهِمْ وَضَرَبْنَا لَكُمُ الأَمْثَالَ .45 46. And they had planned their plan, and their plan is with Allah, and if their plan was implemented (it would have been sufficient) for moving away mountains thereby. وَقَدْ مَكَرُواْ مَكْرَهُمْ وَعِندَ اللّهِ مَكْرُهُمْ وَإِن كَانَ مَكْرُهُمْ لِتَزُولَ مِنْهُ الْجِبَالُ .46 47. So do not think that Allah will go against His promise to His messengers, Allah is certainly Mighty, Capable of retribution. فَلاَ تَحْسَبَنَّ اللّهَ مُخْلِفَ وَعْدِهِ رُسُلَهُ إِنَّ اللّهَ عَزِيزٌ ذُو انْتِقَامٍ .47 48. The day on which the earth will be changed to other than the (present) earth and the skies (too), and they will appear before Allah, the One, the Omnipotent. يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ وَبَرَزُواْ للّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ .48 49. And on that day you will see the criminals linked together in chains, وَتَرَى الْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّقَرَّنِينَ فِي الأَصْفَادِ .49 50. their shirts made of pitch and the fire covering their faces, سَرَابِيلُهُم مِّن قَطِرَانٍ وَتَغْشَى وُجُوهَهُمْ النَّارُ .50 51. that Allah may reward every soul (according to) that which it earned. Allah is certainly Quick (at settling) the account. لِيَجْزِي اللّهُ كُلَّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ إِنَّ اللّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ .51 52. This is a message for mankind that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is certainly one God, and that men of understanding may be mindful. ( R 7 ) هَـذَا بَلاَغٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَلِيُنذَرُواْ بِهِ وَلِيَعْلَمُواْ أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـهٌ وَاحِدٌ وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُوْلُواْ الأَلْبَابِ .52
