147 ROAD USERS DEALT WITH FOR FAILURE TO ‘SHARE THE ROAD’ GMP issued 147 fixed penalty notices in its latest operation to improve road safety and encourage cyclists and motorists to share the road. Police dealt with 125 cyclists for offences such as cycling on the footpath, cycling without lights and cycling through red lights. Offenders were given the option of paying a fine or attending a cycling awareness event. Meanwhile 22 motorists were issued fixed penalty notices for driving while using a mobile phone, failure to comply with traffic signs or driving without a seatbelt. One driver had their car seized for driving antisocially (section 59 police reform act warning).
