If you live south west of a line from Busselton to Albany you should take action and stay safe with bad weather including thunderstorms, heavy showers and flash flooding. This includes people in, near and between Busselton, Albany, Walpole, Augusta and Margaret River. This is typical weather for this time of year but could make travel dangerous. WHAT TO DO: State Emergency Service (SES) has these tips to help you and your family stay safe: Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows If caught outside find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. IF DRIVING: Slow down, turn your lights on and keep a safe distance from other drivers If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current Be careful driving on gravel roads as surfaces will be slippery and muddy and vehicles could become bogged. WEATHER DETAILS: As at 10.15am on 15 July 2013 the Bureau of Meteorology advises there is a slow moving cold front is currently affecting the south-west of the state. Thunderstorms and heavy showers which may lead to flash flooding are forecast for parts of the South West and South Coastal forecast districts. Witchcliffe has recorded 41.8 millimetres between 8.00am and 9.00am. The bad weather is expected to move in a north-easterly direction and should ease by 8pm this evening. WHAT SES IS DOING: Margaret River SES volunteers have attended six requests for assistance related to minor flooding.
