15 June 1988: Michael James Winkler, 31-years-old, a soldier with the Royal Signals Regiment holding the rank of Sergeant. William J. Patterson, 22-years-old, married, a soldier with the Royal Signals Corps holding the rank of Lance-Corporal. Graham P. Lambie, 22-years-old, married a soldier holding the rank of Lance-Corporal. Derek W. Green, 20-years-old, single, a soldier with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, holding the rank of Lance-Corporal. Mark Clavey, 24-years-old, single, a soldier with the Royal Signals Corps, holding the rank of Signalman. Ian Metcalfe, 36-years-old, married with 2 children, a soldier with the Green Howards, holding the rank of Corporal. All 6 soldiers were killed in an IRA bomb that had been left under their unmarked van in Lisburn. The bomb was made up of 7.5lbs of Semtex. The soldiers had just taken part in a fun run. They had no reason to expect the night would end with a booby-trap bomb in an unmarked military van. The IRA said the bomb was formed in a cone shape so that when it exploded, it would explode upwards and not downwards. Sgt Winkler was from Dyfed, Llnelli in Wales. LCpl Patterson was from Glasgow and living in quarters in Londonderry. LCpl Lambie was from Alderson and had been married for only 3 months. LCpl Green was from St. Helens, Merseyside. Signalman Clavey was from Trimley, St. Martin Ipswich in Suffolk and joined the army in 1982. Cpl Metcalfe was serving in the regiments 1st Battalion and was from Wyke, Bradford in Yorkshire. LEST WE FORGET!
