15-year anniversary of Rudd’s “30-Minute Beach Cleanup” is Sat., June 21 includes a National Anthem Singing Contest with $1,000 Prize It’s the 181st consecutive monthly cleanup and volunteers are wanted for 10 a.m. cleanup. On Sat., June 21, Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT) will celebrate their 15-year anniversary and present the 181st “30-Minute Beach Cleanup” at 10 a.m., followed by the 3rd-annual “Southern California Star Spangled Banner Sing-off” for small ensembles and soloists. Volunteers of all ages are needed for the cleanup and are asked to arrive any time after 9:35 a.m. to get free parking at 1 Granada Ave., Belmont Shore in Long Beach, 90803. The singing contest begins at 10:35 and entry is free. Those signed-in by 10 a.m. and who participate in the half-hour cleanup will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win door prizes. BeachCleanup.org for details. The singing contest winner will get a $1,000 appearance contract to sing at 10 upcoming Long Beach events. Winner will accrue $100 for each performance at a CAT event – including the Great American 4th of July Bike Parade, the Miss Long Beach Pageant, the Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade and the Long Beach Turkey Trot. All contestants will sing the last few bars of the song: Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave? Then, a few finalists will be asked to sing the entire first verse of the song. Please have the words memorized.
