150 years ago today, the victorious Confederate army began marching from Monocacy River down the Georgetown Pike. Near Rockville, Brig. Gen. John McCausland begins to skirmish with Union cavalry. The day was hot and many men were fatigued. By night fall, the Confederate army is near Rockville and the Washington defenses at Fort Stevens will be hard at work trying to man the fort. Also, Brig. Gen. Bradley T. Johnson and his brigade of cavalry were well on their way to Point Lookout via Baltimore to free Confederate prisoners there.
