Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au NSW Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds for people in the Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts Issued at 4:00 pm EST on Tuesday 30 September 2014. DAMAGING WINDS FOR ALPINE AREAS TODAY AND EARLY WEDNESDAY Weather Situation A strong cold front approaching New South Wales is expected to reach the alps late Tuesday, preceded by strong to gale force northwesterly winds. DAMAGING WINDS around 60 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are forecast for alpine areas of the Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. Alpine Peaks may experience winds around 70 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
