16 years ago last evening I ate the second, and last, Ramen noodle meal of my hike. And, I didnt eat all of it. The only reason I ate it was I had done an incredibly poor job of food planning/purchasing in Delaware Water Gap AND Wind Gap. So, 16 years ago today was changed into a short (8 miles?) day and included a hitch to a very non-Trail town (Stony Run, PA) for an odd resupply. This is what I wrote about the day: We stashed our packs at the Eckville Shelter and stuck out a thumb. We got a ride from the first car by. After a long trip to Stony Run we found a store. This is where we went in to a carry-all type store from the old days. We could have bought barbed-wire and mailed a letter from the same counter. This is also where this conversation took place with the old store-runnin woman: Me: Do you take Visa? She: No. Stoat: Do you take travellers cheques? She: Whats a travellers cheque? This is also where I gladly bought jelly that was nearly a year past the best before date. When we got back to the trail, we decided to call it a day. 8 miles. We kicked back and waited for the shelter master to get home so we could order pizza. Order pizza we did. This is also where we met, for the first time, Machu Picchu and Huayna. When we told them that we were going to order za, their French-Canadian faces lit up. Order pizza they did. I taught them how to say mayonnaise.
